Do you want to capture readings from your digital multimeter, digital caliper, or other RS-232 serial sensor? In this video we will capture readings from a Protek 506 digital multimeter into the Grid-In-Hand™ Mobile Grid app running on a Dell Streak 7-inch Android tablet. The data will be emailed as an Excel spreadsheet with a simple tap. First you setup your BlueSnap-AAA Bluetooth to RS-232 serial adapter for the digital equipment settings. In this case the meter uses 1200 bits per second, Even Parity, and 7 data bits. These commands can be set using one of Serialio.com BlueSnap setup tools, or with a terminal program connected on the Bluesnap serial port. The BlueSnap is connected to the meter’s DB9 serial port. Launch the Mobile Grid app on the Android tablet, and use the menu — connect option, and connect the BlueSnap. We have already paired the Bluesnap here so we simply tap on the unit in the Bluetooth device list. After connected, simply tap the Android volume down button to read the current multimeter value. Here we have multimeter in resistance setting, and we read the OPEN. We connect the meter probes, and then we measure the SHORT. If you prefer a different trigger to read the meter value, tap Menu — Options — Trigger Options and pick the desired button to map.
